NAVODAYA AND MORARJI DESAI RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS

Introduction

The Social Welfare Department is running 4 Navodaya Model schools and Morarji Desai Residential schools for Scheduled Castes. Seven more schools are proposed to be sanctioned during the current year. These schools are at present managed by the concerned Departments through the Zilla Panchayats.

  The 4 Navodaya schools are located in 4 Revenue Divisions in the state as follows.

Channapatna - Bangalore Rural District. Bangalore Division.

Mundaje -        Dakshnina Kannada District - Mysore  Division.

Bailahongala - Belgaum District - Belgaum Division.

Raichur Town - Raichur District - Gulbarga Division.

Since it has come to the attention of the Government that under the Zilla Panchayat these schools are not getting proper attention, a separate society has been established   in   the   year  1999-2000,   called     the " Residential School Society " to carry out the efficient administration of these schools. All the Morarji Desai / Navodaya schools are transferred to the society. Some of the functions of the society includes:-

Construction of school building at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.00 Crores per Residential school. For this purpose it is also proposed to raise loan from HUDCO on Government guarantee.

Construction of hostel building work is also entrusted.

Maintenance of the schools.

To appoint staff, fix remunerations etc.

To organise and conduct study courses, conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops, study tours and other activities for the benefit of the students and staff of the schools.
Description

Admission Pattern :-

The sanctioned strength in each Navodaya school is 200 and 250 in Morarji Desai Schools of which SC/ STs children will fill 75% of the seats and 25% of from other Backward classes’ children. Education is provided from VI Std. to X Std. D
During the month of May every year admissions are carried out through an entrance examination.

The schools are provided with teaching staff and non- teaching staff.

Facilities Available:-

  • The students are provided with both boarding and lodging facilities.

  • For each student boarding charges of Rs. 500/- p.m. will be paid for 10 months and food is supplied as per the diet chart.

  • Dresses worth of Rs. 800/- p.a. is supplied to each student i.e. 2 pairs of dresses, 2 pairs of canvas shoes with socks.  Rs.600/- per student once in two years for bedding.  

  • Students are given textbooks, notebooks and stationery items worth Rs. 500/- p. a.

  • Miscellaneous charges are given to each student at the rate of Rs. 100/- p.m. (for soap, oil, toothpaste, hair cutting etc.)

  • Medical expenses will be paid to each student at the rate of Rs. 1000/- p.a.

  • Items like steel plates and cups, furniture, library books, laboratory equipments, sports materials are also provided
Eligibility

SC students who have passed IV Std. are eligible for entrance examination to get admitted to V Std.

The candidates interested in joining Navodaya school can approach the Taluk Social Welfare Officer where the school is located. 

Time Schedule

The parents should apply for admission in the month of May.
